From following the unknown to experimenting with new extreme activities. In this article, I will describe what adventure means to me!
When we experience a dangerous situation, our body releases adrenaline. This hormone speeds up the heartbeat and makes us breathe more efficiently.
It makes us feel alive.
Of course, probably, we don’t want to remain in this state continuously.
Whereas, at little doses, adrenaline is an essential component of my nomadic lifestyle. I love to do new experiences and push myself towards the unknown. From paragliding to scuba diving. From tracking in the Amazon to surfing in the Pacific.
I always like to get involved and avoid boredom. Even though I am not an expert in any of these practices, just experimenting with them is a kind of personal adventure.
A sort of constant challenge to myself!
If I had to draw up a personal ranking of the 3 most adventurous experiences I have had to date, this would be my podium:
A unique experience I had only once in a small village in Colombia. Jumping from a mountain, opening the parachute and flying over the trees is fantastic. I would also love to try skydiving, which is currently missing from my list.
This experience was quite intense. Maybe also more than paragliding. Since, as a beginner in paragliding, you are with an instructor; in canyoning, while going down the canyon, you are alone with yourself.
- Doing ayahuasca in the Amazon.
It was undoubtedly one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had.
I knew from various stories that the medicine of the Shamans of the Amazon was a rather extreme introspective journey, but I would never have imagined it to such an extent.
You have to be prepared for this!
However, adventure certainly isn’t just experienced through extreme sports. The same “Nomadic” lifestyle itself can be considered a continuous adventure.
Not being sure where to live when visiting a new country. Staying alone in unfamiliar places. Growing a business while living on the road. All these aspects make this lifestyle a continuous adventure.
Personally, the aspects that I consider most adventurous are always meeting new people, coming across new habits and customs and being contaminated by different cultures.
Although you can sometimes lose your bearings on your journey as a digital nomad, the possibility of continuously having new experiences certainly repays you in the depths of your spirit. The freedom that this lifestyle grants you is itself synonymous with adventure; it is then up to each of us to interpret it as we wish.
If you are thinking of starting your adventure as a Digital Nomad but are scared of the unknown, I understand you!
Starting from a good economic base and carrying out some little freelance activities online is always a good starting point. But also take into consideration that often things develop along the way. So, do not worry!
In the end, you only live once; so ask yourself if not now when?
And if you are afraid of travelling to unknown places, I recommend activating a travel medical insurance policy like SafetyWing.
This policy covers me in case of medical and travel emergencies in over 185 countries. It also includes coverage for many adventurous sports.
To conclude, I can say that adventure is a fundamental component of my life. It allows me to defeat the boredom that sometimes strikes and feel active. So, I encourage you to live life to the fullest so that you will not have any regrets in the future!
