La Terra 13 it’s a recently inaugurated Bar-Terrace in the heart of the iconic Medellin’s Comuna 13.
If you haven’t visited Medellin’s famous Comuna 13 district yet, now is the right time. This is undoubtedly one of the must-sees in the city. The San Javier barrio is located in the west of the city, 30 min by car from the city centre. You can alternatively get there by metro via San Antonio station.
This neighbourhood had a history of brutality and lawlessness. During Pablo Escobar years, it was considered one of the most dangerous areas in the Antioquia capital.
Thanks to street art, music and the commitment of the community, the people of the Barrio today have obtained the social redemption they have been looking for in years.
Nowadays, as a consequence also of the electric stairs network that make a visit to the Comuna a pleasant walk, rather than an excursion activity, the Comuna 13 district is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. Yes, because the topography of the San Javier district is decidedly hilly, developing upwards. Thus in December 2011, the electric stairs were inaugurated and soon became a work of innovation for the entire city.
The 350 steps (equivalent to a 10-storey building) were then replaced by a network of electric stairs that allow tourists and locals to climb to the top of the Barrio without any effort.
The tour of comuna 13 is a unique experience. You can immerse yourself through art and culture in an exciting setting overlooking the city. Street Art colors the walls of the neighbourhood and street artists dance to the rhythms of Hip Hop, Breakdance and Reggaeton.
LaTerra13 was born in this fantastic scenario. A Terrace Bar with a breathtaking view of the city. Located on the left side by the second stage of the electric stairs, Terra13 opens every day from 2 pm to 10 pm serving beer and cocktails with various musical events on Saturdays and Sundays. So if you feel fatigued after the neighbourhood tour we recommend you stop for a beer and enjoy the sunset.
The space was designed in accordance with the urban style of the neighbourhood. And the aim of the owners is to create events that can highlight local artists also in the eyes of international tourists.
